Three tips to help narrow down your choices.

Fierce competition has commoditized many aspects of the cleaning industry. Facility managers are constantly asking their service providers to sharpen their pencils. Translation: Keep the price low (without compromising service or quality). However, sometimes it’s important to evaluate what makes a supplier great outside of pricing

Below are three tips to help you identity what to look for in a service provider for your organization and how to select the best from the bunch.

1. Check for Certification

Look for an organization that is Insured (General Liability, Auto, Workmans Compensation) and Bonded. These organizations that have proper Insurance and paperwork have already set themselves apart from the majority of the cleaning service world. By checking for this documentation you are assuring that you are working with a larger company and not a small mom and pop operation. This paperwork will also take the liability off of your organization.

2. Do Your Homework and Vet

Look for a service provider that is familiar with your area, facility, or at least facilities that are similar to yours. Check references. Yelp is a great resource for vetting companies.

3. Schedule Detailed Walkthroughs

Receive a minimum of 3 proposals. I know you are busy, However by properly setting scheduled walkthroughs and going into the details on what you expect for your service (Scope of Work). These walkthroughs will ultimately save you time, hassle and money in the long run. This will help you get a sense of a price range and how the service company operates. Not every company is the same and not every company is going to be a fit. When reviewing the proposals look for the details of what was disgusted during the walk through.

Making the Decision

In the current marketplace, cleaning companies should identify ways to make doing business easier by serving as a resource for you, your organization, and your customers. By going through these 3 steps you will be able to decide which company best fits your organization. Most janitorial companies are open to negotiation when it comes to pricing. So you do not automatically have to count the highest proposal. If the highest proposal was the best fit and seemed the most qualified simply ask for better pricing. In the end, it’s up to you, but hopefully the tips here can help to serve as a guide.
